If you desire uncommon amounts of privacy together with 180-degree water views, then you will be thrilled by the Oyster Cove Bed & Breakfast ( 20 Partridge Way , Wellfleet; 508-349-2994). Be sure to have detailed directions, because getting here involves winding down quiet harbor side lanes, and there is no sign at the end of the drive - just the street number. Upstairs is the Captains Studio, a generously proportioned open room painted pale gray, with white trim and fresh Berber carpeting. Its queen bed is draped with folds of white organza and topped with a blue comforter, and a coordinating sofa bed affords accommodation for a third person. The colors, the organza and the 10 windows, seven with water views, make the whole place say "beach". Downstairs is a three-bedroom unit that sleeps six. This family unit is decorated with a pale, unsullied palate as well, and has a separate living area. Both units provide kitchen facilities and private decks. The studio rate ranges from $150 to $235 per night, depending upon season, and the three-bedroom unit from $300 to $450. Since there are only two lodging accommodations at Oyster Cove, they book up rather quickly - and despite, or perhaps due to, the fact that a two-night minimum stay is required year-round.

How can anyone go wrong when choosing accommodations with names like The Beach Suite or The Captains Studio (our personal favorite with breathtaking views overlooking Wellfleet harbor). The Oyster Cove is an adventure traveler's dream come true, but if all you want is to while away the hours with a good book on a private deck, it's perfect for you too. Your hosts, Dick and Sandy Nicholson, built this large three-level deck home on waterfront property owned by their family since the 1930s. It offers you views of Indian Neck, Great Island, Chipmans Cove, and of course Wellfleet Harbor, home of the world-famous Wellfleet oyster. Bring your kayak and explore to your hearts content. Or walk the shoreline of Ducke Creeke. Nature is at your doorstep. And when you're hungry for civilization again, you can head to the many art galleries in Wellfleet.

This spacious contemporary home features French doors, open ceilings with exposed beams, and polished concrete floors. Each living area, which opens onto a large outside deck, includes cable TV with VCR, a CD/radio system. The lower level Beach Suite is unique in that it includes three large bedrooms, and guests can rent one, two, or all of them. It also features a large bathroom with two sinks and tub with shower, and a living/dining area with wet bar and kitchenette, making it ideal for couples, families, or groups of up to 6 people. All beds are queen-size.

A gourmet continental breakfast of Sandy 's muffins and scones, fresh fruit, and hot coffee is served daily. Dick is more than happy to in help you plan your whale-watch, fishing, sailing, or activity of preference. Oyster Cove is open year-round.
